Rue Gabriel Péri in 1950

While the industrial growth of the city gave it commercial prosperity, the use of the automobile on this major axis of Varangéville nevertheless still remained confidential at this time. First named RN4, today the RD400 is considered a strategic axis for the population area from Nancy to Lunéville. With the flow of vehicles growing exponentially, the authorities decided to build a motorway nearby in order to relieve congestion in the Meurthe valley. The A33 was created in 1972, initially in 3 lanes.

Please note: many people would have difficulty imagining a tramway passing on rue Gabriel Péri, although this was the case with the Nancy - Dombasle suburban line from 1874 to 1948.
