Varangéville Station was put into service on August 12, 1852 by the Paris to Strasbourg Railway Company at the time of the opening to rail operation of the section going from Frouard to Sarrebourg of the Paris-Strasbourg line.
It quickly became the economic heart of the city, guaranteeing openness to Paris and the East of France. The building intended for travelers, in neoclassical style, was inaugurated in 1853. It is typical of the stations built by this company.
Today, the station’s annual attendance is close to 350,000 travelers. The town of Varangéville, in close collaboration with the SNCF, has always ensured that it offers quality transport to its residents.
A starting point for the wounded from the fighting of 1914, it will be one of the most important logistical interfaces between the front and the rear of the country during the First World War.
Also note that the railway workers of Varangéville, like many other resistance fighters, particularly distinguished themselves by their fight against the Nazi occupiers during the Second World War. A monument commemorating this bravery is erected in their memory at Square Jean MOULIN. The town of Varangéville will never forget them.
